ELF Studio Line Haul [[PIC HEAVY]]

Last month http://www.eyeslipsface.com was having a 50% off sale on ALL their Studio line products. I wouldn't have known this if it wasn't for Natty's post on her website! Thanks Natty! I've only ever heard of ELF and never have bought ANY of their products so I didn't know what to expect. I knew that it was a really inexpensive brand which I've seen at my local Dollarama all the time so I never expected much from their products considering the prices are ridiculously cheap. However, so far I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality and packaging of most of their products. I have yet to test out everything I purchased, as I did end up picking up a lot of product, but so far I think it's a great affordable brand! Here are my first impressions of ELF! Let me know if there is any product in particular you would like a more detailed review on. I will be doing a comparison of some ELF products to NARS for those of you who are curious.

The goods

EYES

Minus the flat top powder brush, these are all EYE products. I have yet to test out the brush so I have no comment on that. My eyelash curler works great and it comes with an extra rubber piece. The eyelashes weren't 50% off since they are not part of the Studio Line, but they are only $1 each which is PHENOMENAL! I usually get Ardell lashes which are $4.87 at Walmart and occasionally I will splurge on a pair of MAC lashes which are $16.50! I bought 5 pairs of Dramatic Lashes and 2 pairs of Natural. The Dramatic lashes remind me of Ardell 105s (which are one of the pairs I repurchase often). Still, my favourite pair of lashes are Ardell 111s, but I do like ELF Dramatic Lashes. For only $1, these are a GREAT alternative! Do not use the glue in these kits or any other lash kit for that matter. ONLY use Duo Lash Adhesive if you are to use glue on your lash line. It's a surgical grade adhesive and adheres and washes with ease.

I didn't pick up any of their single eyeshadows as none of the colours really appealed to me. I did pick up three cream liners: midnight, coffee and black. At first swatch I wasn't impressed with these at all (I used the brushes that came with each product). They went on VERY light and streaky and did not have the pigmentation I was after. I have only used the brown cream liner so far, "coffee" and I did like it on my eye. The line was much more pigmented using a MAC 206 angled brush and the product wore all day without fading. I probably wouldn't buy the black cream liner as I find other brands have much better black cream liner then ELF. However, I don't have other colours of cream liner and the ELF ones are good enough for me to expand my collection without breaking my budget.

The pencil on the far right is what I was looking forward to the most out of my order. It is ELFs Eyebrow Lifter & Filler. One end has an eyebrow pencil in medium brown and the other end has a highlighter/"lifter" in a pinkish nude shade. I've always wanted to try the Anastasia matte highlight pencil in camille, but couldn't justify spending the money on it. I think this is a perfect alternative for it as it really highlights and opens up the arch of my brow area and also camouflages any stray hairs that I have yet to pluck. The other end, the brow filler side, I think is garbage. The product is way to waxy and hard to control because th e pencil is so thick. I may try using a MAC 206 to grab product on the end and then fill in my brows that way to see if it helps, but using the product right from the pencil...yuck. It's worth mentioning that I really like how on one end it comes with its very own sharpener! Another plus! I would repurchase this product again just for the "lifter" side!

Swatches from left to right: lifter shade, medium brown brow shade, black cream liner, midnight cream liner, coffee cream liner, natural lip liner

LIPS

Most of my lip products I have yet to really test out. I ended up picking up a Lip Liner and Blending Brush in "Natural", "Heartbreaker" Lip Stain, "Red Carpet" Lip Stain, "Peaceful Pink" Conditioning Lip Balm SPF 15, and "Mellow Melon" Conditioning Lip Balm SPF15. I have used the Lip Balms a couple times each and I think they are a great product. Very creamy, thick, moisturizing... the only thing I don't like is that the packaging is so bulky on these and the lids are a bid hard to screw off.

ELF Conditioning Lip Balm SPF 15 in "Mellow Melon"

ELF Conditioning Lip Balm SPF 15 in "Peaceful Pink"

FACE
As far as FACE products, I picked up 3 powder blushes; "Peachy Keen", "Blushing Rose", "Gotta Glow", a Cream Blush in "Flirt", and a bronzer in "Warm". So far I really like the blushes and bronzer (gorgeous colours) and the textures are quite finely milled, surprisingly. I have yet to try the cream blush.

From Left to Right: "Blushing Rose", "Peachy Keen", "Gotta Glow"

Elf "Warm" Bronzer - finger swirled in all 4 shades

ELF Cream Blush in "Flirt" - a mousse like texture

More face products: Contouring Blush and Bronzer Powder, Makeup Remover Cleansing Cloths, High Definition Powder.

I've been using the Cleansing Cloths everyday now and I'm almost done with the package. They are very thin sheets compared to my Kirkland Wipes and they don't have as much moisture but they do take off my makeup, especially my mascara, very well! I would not purchase these again as I can't stand the smell. They smell like hospital to me and all my memories of being in a hospital, so far in life, have never been good. It's definitely a clean smell, but just not a clean smell that I'm a fan of. If the smell didn't bother me, these wipes would be great!

I can't stand the packaging on the ELF High Definition Powder. It was REALLY messy the first time I opened it because powder got into the screw grooves of the cap and leaked out when I opened it (even with the face puff still in the jar). It comes with a puff, which I don't use I just use a brush. The product is VERY silky and blends in effortlessly. It is a transparent setting powder so it won't add any colour. I've used this a few times to set my face and it worked very well. I would repurchase this product again if I ever run out.

I can't swatch the contouring blush and bronzer powder, as it was a stalking stuffer for a friend, but I did take a picture of it beside my NARS "Orgasm" blush and "Laguna" bronzer for comparison. It's definitely not an exact dupe, clearly the blushes aren't the same, but it is definitely a much more affordable option if you like, but can't afford the NARS duo. I didn't get myself one of these since I already have the NARS versions so it would just collect dust.

I placed the order on November 24th and it came December 14th. Usually I receive packages much faster from the US. Shipping is usually closer to the 2 week mark as opposed to 3, but I'm not complaining since 2-3 is typically the average.

Have you tried anything by ELF? What are your hits and misses?

NOTD: Holiday/New Years Eve Nails

"It Looks Like Rain, Dear" and "Only Gold For Me"

Hey Guys!
I ended up getting my Sephora order in the mail before Christmas so as soon as I opened my package I instantly did my nails with Sephora by OPI "Looks Like Rain, Dear". After seeing this on several bloggers nails I HAD to buy this polish for myself. It is limited edition at Sephora so if you are interested in it you better pick it up ASAP. I know when I went into my local Sephora store that it was sold out but they do still have it online! I think Gold is the perfect colour for the holiday season and is definitely a trend, a long with silver, for this coming New Years Eve! With that said, here is Sephora by OPI "Looks Like Rain, Dear" along with Sephora by OPI "Only Gold For Me". I was thinking for NYE that I will layer a ton of "Only Gold For Me" so that it is really opaque. I wonder how many layers I would have to use? haha. I'll definitely post some pics if it works out. LOL

What are your plans for New Years?

My Christmas!

(Taken at my sides family Christmas)
Hey Guys!
Hope you all had a great Christmas/holiday! This year I spent Christmas Eve with Charles where I made us dinner and we exchanged gifts. We've never had our own Christmas, it has always been rushed at either one of our parents house so I'm glad we had Christmas Eve to spend with each other. Christmas day was VERY busy. After making French Crepes for breakfast, we drove to my parents house and had lunch with them and exchanged gifts with my brothers and their fiancees. Late afternoon we then drove to Charles parents' house and exchanged gifts and had dinner with his immediate family (Charles has 2 sisters and 1 brother). I had a blast! Now I can relax since I'm off work until January 3rd! I only get two weeks vacation each year (Christmas and Summer) so some well needed R&R is in order.

I thought I would share with you some of my favourite gifts that I received this Christmas!

Who says money doesn't grow on trees?!
(Charles father made this! So creative and such a cool idea.)

(A lipstick ornament hanging from the tree...surprise surprise! Also, gold chocolate coins yum yum)

(Square dishes... This may not seem exciting to you, but I was thrilled to get these!)

(Black Onyx Bracelet from Tiffany & Co. My first piece of Tiffany jewelry!)

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and Happy New Year!

Favourite Products of 2010!

I saw this post going around on blogger and thought it would be fun to do as a summary of my favourites of 2010! I love monthly favourites ESPECIALLY end of the year favourite posts/videos on youtube so if you haven't done this yet, make sure you post this on your blog and link it in the comment box below! I would love to read it!

Makeup

Foundation: I've gone through countless foundations this year and I would have to say that my favourite foundation, although pricey, is NARS Sheer Glow. I kept debating if it beat out my trusty MUFE HD and I think it has!

Concealer: Currently I'm testing out MAC Pro longwear concealer and YSL Touche Eclat (a highlighter, though I use it under my eye area) so I can't say quite yet if these beat out my trusty MAC Studio Finish.

Powder: MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural (for face) and Ben Nye Neutral Set Translucent Powder (for under eye). I haven't been using powder very often as my skin is even more dry than usual in the winter time. However, if I were to reach for powder, these are what I would use.

Blush: NYX Cream Blush in "Rose Petal"

Bronzer: I can't decide between Chanel Soliel De Tan (Bronze Universel), NARS Laguna Bronzer or MAC Refined Golden Bronzer. I love bronzer!

Highlight: NARS Albatross all-time FAVOURITE highlighter hands down.

Eyeshadow: My favourite eyeshadow of all time is MAC Solar White. I use it to highlight the inner corner of my eye, or when I'm really daring, I use it to highlight my brow bone for a night out on the town. However, I'm going to break this category down into three: Lid, Crease, Highlight. My favourite eyeshadow for the Lid is MAC Grain e/s, Crease is MAC Cork e/s, Highlight is MAC Ivorie. My favourite palette is Urban Decay's Naked Palette!

Eyeliner: Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in "Zero" (<---AMAZING!!!!), and MAC Blacktrack Fluidline.

Eyeshadow primer/base: Urban Decay Primer Potion

Eyelash curler: ELF Eyelash Curler

Mascara: CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara in Very Black (the original one in the orange tube)

Lipstick: MAC Brave New Bronze (this was a very hard decision)

Lipgloss: MAC Partial to Pink (this was a very hard decision)

Nail polish: If you asked me right now I would tell you I'm OBSESSED with Sephora by OPI "It Looks Like Rain, Dear". However, it still can't replace my coveted OPI "My Private Jet".

Body

Shower gel/soap: SoftSoap Milk and Honey

Body lotion/cream: Johnson's Vanilla Oatmeal Baby Lotion (baby products are the best! LOL)

Body exfoliator: MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator (it's all gone *starts to cry*)

Hand cream: Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream

Lip balm/treatment: Korres Lip Butter in "Jasmine"

Perfume: Givenchy Hot Couture

Face

Cleanser: Clinique Liquid Facial Soap in Mild

Toner/lotion: Clinique #2 Toner

Moisturizer: Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion

Facial mask: Queen Helene Mint Julep Facial Mask

Exfoliator: MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator

Makeup remover: Kirkland Facial Cleansing Towelettes

HAIR

Shampoo: Aussie Moist or LUSH Seanik Shampoo Bar

Conditioner: Aussie Moist

Heat Tamer: TRESemme Heat Tamer Spray (I've gone through countless bottles of this stuff. It smells AMAZING and it leaves my hair shiny and not weighed down).

Hair Spray: TRESemme Tres Two Extra Hold

Leave-in Conditioner: Garnier Fructis Leave-In Conditioning Cream (Sleek & Shine)

Smoothing Cream: Bed Head After Party

I wanted to make a more detailed post on my HG cosmetics. This basically has most of them in here, but I would like to go more in depth. This post is in the works and will be up in the New Year!

FOTD: Smokey Eye Using MAC Eyeshadows [[PIC HEAVY]]

Here is a break down of the look I was wearing when I went shopping with Charles on the weekend. It is pic heavy because I had a little Nikon D90 photo shoot and I was bored on the 30 minute car ride to the mall so I took pictures with my point and shoot Canon Power Shot SD1400 IS. If you haven't checked out my OOTD for this look, click here. I was really sick the day I took these photos so please excuse the dark circles under my eyes. I'm pretty sure it's turning into a sinus infection...UGG

Photo taken w/ flash... very impressed the flash didn't wash me out or distort my makeup.
In order to take good makeup photos w/ my point and shoot I ALWAYS have to be in natural lighting.

FACE:
Make Up For Ever Primer #0 Neutral
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Stromboli
MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW25
Ben Nye Neutral Set Translucent Powder (to set under eye)
Chanel Bronze Universel
MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl

BROWS:
Make Up For Ever Waterproof Brow Corrector#3
(My best friend borrowed this and I finally got it back...forgot how much I LOVE this stuff)

EYES:
UDPP
MAC Brow Duo in "Ivory" (to highlight)
MAC Club e/s (all over lid)
MAC Smut e/s (crease)
MAC Typographic e/s (tiny amount in crease and to set eyeliner)
MAC Blacktrack Fluidline
Ardell #111 falsies

LIPS:
MAC Stripdown l/l
MAC Brave New Bronze l/s
MAC Boy Bait l/g

All these pics below were taken w/ my point and shoot. You can tell the difference in quality between the above (Nikon D90) and below (Canon Power Shot SD1400IS). If you want really good lighting, take pictures in your car! I know it sounds weird, but it gives great lighting conditions!

Sorry I got carried away w/ my camera...LOL
Thanks for looking!

Kim Kardashian Inspired OOTD!

I've wanted a blazer for EVER now. I finally found one on Forever21.com that I really liked and ordered it right away. Good thing too because it sold out within hours. It has padded shoulders which gives a great shape to my body. I always see Kim Kardashian in blazers and they instantly add a classy, sophisticated touch. Here are some inspiration pictures of Kim wearing various blazers:

Long Tank Top Forever 21
Lace Long Sleeve Shirt Forever 21
Black Padded Shoulder Blazer Forever 21
Jeggings American Eagle

Over-the-Knee Stiletto Boots Forever 21

KIM KARDASHIAN INSPIRED OOTD

I ended up changing my top because Charles and I were heading to the mall and I didn't want to struggle with too many layers, like my first outfit, when trying on clothes. I added a plain white tank from Forever 21, House of Harlow Black Resin Necklace, H&M Leather Gloves, Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 Monogram Canvas. I know Kim K has the same necklace so I thought it would complete the Kim K inspired look :)
