LOTD: "Look of the Day" (FOTD, OOTD, HOTD)

Hey Guys!
How was your weekend? Mine was pretty relaxing. I worked Saturday so I only had Sunday off. This is my LOTD "Look of the Day" for Sunday. Please disregard the hormonal blemishes on my chin. I found my Maybelline Fit Me Foundation made me look a bit sunburnt in certain lightening today and my skin wasn't the greatest to begin with. I think it may have just been reacting weird with my self tanner, not sure, since I haven't had this problem before.

I haven't researched this yet, but I figured I'd ask my readers first... I have some acne scarring on my chin and was wondering if there is a product out there I could use to lessen the appearance of them? Let me know if you have tried or have heard of anything!

HOTD "Hair of the Day"

To achieve this look, I washed my hair the night before, put in a leave-in conditioner (Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave-In Conditioning Cream) and let it air dry. I woke up and used a spiral curling iron through my entire head of hair. I flipped my head over, ran my fingers through the tight curls to loosen them up and parted my hair to the side. I've had this spiral curling iron sitting in my bathroom closet for some time now and I've never really used it. I really like how my hair turned out and it lasted all day and even looked good the next day when I woke up! I used TreSemme Tres Two Hairspray to keep it in place.

OOTD "Outfit of the Day"

I got this dress at Forever21. They had it in black, but I have so many black dresses that I opted for the olive version. I purchased this several months ago, but never wore it (I'm pretty sure I blogged about it in a F21 Haul post...) Usually greens work against my eye colour, but this green actually enhanced my eye colour! The headband I got from Forever21 as well and it has feathers and some medallions to the side...I ended up taking it off LOL

January 2011 Favourites

Hey Guys!

It seems like FOREVER since I've done a favourites post. Probably because I did a cummulative end of the year favourites for 2010, not a monthly favourites post. I've been buying and trying out a TON of products lately. Here are some of my favourite products I've been loving this past month:

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation #220: I'm really enjoying this foundation as a cheap alternative to my NARS Sheer Glow. I really like how this foundation melts into my skin and matches my skintone regardless of if I'm super tan, or more my natural colour. The only downside to this is that my face is overly shiny unless I use a powder with it. Normally I don't even need to powder because I have such dry skin, but with this I MUST powder. To see how this looks on my face, click here.

MAC Pro Longwear Foundation NC25: This is perfect for my work. I put this on at 5:00 am and my foundation looks just as good when I get home at 4:30 pm. I do find this foundation to be fairly hard to blend into my dry skin even when I moisturize. I have to use quite a bit of Fix+ to make this look natural.

Estee Lauder Night Repair Serum: I've used samples of this in the past, but have never purchased a whole bottle. In the couple weeks I've been using this at night I can see and feel a difference in the texture of my skin. My skin is less dry and is more smooth. I noticed a difference in my skin after just one night of use! This is what my skin has been asking for and I'm so glad I decided to pick up a full bottle (I got 2 GWP when I bought this, Time Zone Moisture Cream and Night Repair Eye and I will be buying a full size of each once I'm done with them!)

Moroccan Oil: I picked this up when I went to Toronto and I love how this smells and can be used on wet or dry hair. My hair is incredibly silky. shiny and healthy looking when I use this. It is a bit pricey, but worth every penny because all you need is just a drop and it will suffice for even the longest of hair (i.e., mine)

NARS "Mekong" Eyeshadow: I love all the NARS eyeshadows I picked up this month, but this has to be my favourite. I've never been able to find a brown eyeshadow that has been dark enough for my liking. This is VERY dark and rich and really brings out my green eyes. I've been using this in my crease and as an eyeliner and it looks beautiful. I will definitely repurchase if I ever run out!

NARS "Madly" Blush: This is my new favourite NARS blush. I have several blushes and this is perfect with my NC30 skintone. It gives me a hint of colour, but more importantly a healthy glow that looks very natural.

Benefit Bad Gal Mascara: I've very picky when it comes to mascaras and I usually hate more mascaras than I like. However, I'm in love with this sample sized Bad Gal lash because it makes my eyelashes VERY thick and it doesn't smudge or flake. I will be purchasing a full size of this once my sample runs out.

MAC "New Vegas" Mineralize Skinfinish: I've been wanting this MSF for quite sometime and finally got my hands on one. I was always worried about buying this since it came out in 07' and hasn't been re-released sinced so I figured I would just be paying an enormous amont of money for a fake. I'm happy to say that this is authentic and everything I hoped it would be. It is quite glittery and I couldn't see fairer skintones pulling this off as it is quite gold, but it gives me a really nice glow when I'm tan. I've been keeping up with my self-tanning a lot recently so I've been really into buying warm colours, golds, browns...etc., that suit my complexion.

Goody Spin Pin: I forgot to take a picture of these since they were in my hair at the time. I got these at Christmas in my stalking and they are such an amazing invention...I can't believe someone hasn't thought of these sooner?! All you need is to twist the two pins into your hair and it firmly secures your bun. I like putting my hair out of my way when I'm doing my makeup so I've been using these everyday in the morning to secure my hair. Also, this is a quick way to style my hair when I'm on the go and my hair is a crazy mess...just twist my hair in a bun and twist these two pins in and I'm ready in less than 10 seconds!

Top 10 Permanent MAC Eyeshadows

Hey Guys!

I've had a couple requests to do a top 10 MAC Eyeshadow post. I know it can be intimidating when you are first starting out with MAC since they have a TON of products and colours to choose from. If I could do it all over again, or if I could only use 10 MAC Eyeshadows for the rest of my life, these would be the ones I would choose and suggest to start out with. This is my own personal opinion. I do own a lot of MAC eyeshadows and think these are great staples.

1. Brule - Satin Finish, Soft-Creamy Beige - Perfect as a non-shimmer brow highlight. If you have light skin I would suggest using Vanilla. I personally love Brule as it isn't as pale.

2. Nylon - Frost, Pale Gold with Icy Shimmer - A beautiful shimmer highlight for when your lid colour is more matte. I don't like using a shimmer lid colour and a shimmer highlight or a matte lid with matte highlight, therefore I suggest getting two different finishes for brow highlight colours.

3. Naked Lunch - Frost, Minimal Pink with Shimmer - This is perfect for a light wash of all-over lid colour. It works with every skintone so you can't go wrong. I have Jest as well and it is very similar to Naked Lunch, but more pink so you don't need both colours if you are just starting out with MAC.

4. Wedge - Matte, Soft Muted Beige Taupe - great for in the crease and blending out lid colours/transitioning from lid to highlight colour.

5. Cork - Satin, Muted Golden Brown - Perfect to fill in eyebrows, for those with medium/dark brown hair, or for in the crease.

6. Folie - Satin, Reddish Plum Brown - If you have green eyes, like I do, this really brings them out. I love putting a touch of this in the crease or lining my eyes with it to make my eye colour stand out.

7. Satin Taupe - Frost, Taupe with Silver Shimmer - I love using this in the crease w/ Naked Lunch/Jest on the lid for a perfect day-time neutral look.

8. Typographic -Matte2, Ashphalt Black - I would have suggested Carbon instead of Typographic since it is the deepest black MAC carries, but I actually prefer the texture and blendability of Typographic over Carbon.

9. Contrast - Velvet, Purplish Blue with Blue Pearl - You will notice all the colours I have suggested so far are neutral (I personally don't wear a lot of coloured eyeshadows). I do, however, love deep purples and blues because they bring out my green eyes the best. This is a purplish/blue which is the perfect combination of the two colours I love. This is great for a smokey eye when applied in the crease and blended out.

Okay, so I couldn't pick 10. It was either pick 9 or choose 15 and I didn't want to pick too many as it defeats the purpose of picking a few necessary shadows out for beginners. For the 10th eyeshadow I probably would pick a dark brown shade (e.g., Espresso). If you are more daring go with a colour you like instead.

Hope this helps those of you who may not no where to start in building your eyeshadow collections!

FOTD: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation, Powder and Concealer [[PIC HEAVY]]

Hey Guys!

I'm so excited to share with you this FOTD. I was looking through flyers and saw in Walmart that Maybelline's "Fit Me" Makeup launched in stores this past Friday. As soon as I saw that it was out in Canada I quickly drove to Walmart and picked up a foundation, powder and concealer. I've been wanting to try this since I first heard about it on Natty's blog. It retails for just under $8 a product here in Canada which is REALLY affordable. I had one of the blushes in my hand but decided against it since I have very similar shades already. One of them actually looked kinda like NARS Madly (which is my fave blush of the month). I should have swatched it to see if they were actually close now that I think about it...but Natty thought it looked similar as well so it must be! :)

Since I've only used this product over the weekend I can't give a full review. My first impressions of the products are pretty good. I'm in love with the foundation and powder combo. The foundation and powder are said to:

* match natural tone

* blend seemlessly

* let skin breathe

I agree with all three points for both the powder and the foundation! It's pretty early to tell, but I have to say this could quite possibly be my HG drugstore foundation...that's how much I love it. My skin is usually pretty dry and most foundations accentuate this despite how much I moisturize, but this foundation/powder doesn't. It gives me a perfect dewy complexion, which I love. With this said, I don't know how oily skin would fair using this product, as even with dry skin (which I normally don't even need to powder) I MUST powder using this foundation or I'll look like a shiny grease ball.

At the moment I'm quite tan, about an NC35, but I did use this when I was more of an NC30 and it still matched quite nicely.

I've talked about the foundation and the powder, but I have yet to talk about the concealer. My personal preference, I need more coverage. I put this on, took a couple pictures and saw bags under my eyes, yuck. I had to put on my MAC Studio Finish Concealer to correct the problem. It is quite moisturizing, but at the moment I need more coverage. I don't even have that bad of bags/under eye circles in the first place so I'm not sure why this didn't work for me. I'll have to try it out again. At the moment I would not repurchase the concealer.
My skin would look more even/pores would appear less large if I were to have primed my face primer to application of the foundation...however, I wanted to provide you with realistic images as to how the foundation and powder sit on my skin. As always these photos are taken in natural light, no photoshop. Hope you enjoy! Let me know if you have tried anything from the Maybelline Fit Me line and how you liked it!

Hey Guys!

This weekend flew by. I worked Friday night until 1:15 am and then Saturday I cleaned the house all day and then went out to dinner and a movie with Charles. We went to see "No Strings Attached" starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman and I must say that I haven't seen such a good comedy in a long time. I definitely recommend going to see it! I will be purchasing the movie when it comes out on BluRay.

Anyways, I saw this lipstick on Michelle's, Lipstick Rules, Blog and it instantly peaked my interest. I've always want a good orange lipstick and this is definitely ORANGE. In pictures it shows a tad red, but in real life it is as orange as orange gets (on my lips). I wore this with and without self tanner and it looks flattering when I'm NC25-NC35.

I will definitely be rocking Orange lips come the warmer months now that I know I can pull it off.
Have you tried Orange lipstick?

NOTD: Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Nail Polish in #420 Midnight Blue

Hey Guys!
I showed you this polish in my October 2010 favourites, but I never actually showed you what it looked like on my nails. I have a ton of this brand of Rimmel polishes because they are the longest lasting polishes I've ever tried (they trump even high end brands such as OPI, Orly, Essie, Zoya in terms of lasting ability). The polish says it lasts up to 10 days...and it comes pretty darn close (and I'm constantly using my hands and banging my nails in my line of work). This is a beautiful dark blue polish, almost black in low lighting.

FOTD: MAC Pro Longwear Foundation (NC25) and Concealer (NW25)

Overexposed, but I think it turned out cool
Hey Guys!
My computer crashed yesterday and I lost a ton of files and photos that were for future posts. I do backup my files on an external harddrive every now and then, but I haven't since I got my Nikon D90 so I lost all those images *tear*. I hope this never happens to any of you... Anyways, I went out last night and got a cheap desktop computer just to have something to use for the time being until I get myself a MAC. I really want a MAC laptop mainly for photo editing as I'm really getting into digital photography. I don't have the extra money for a MAC at the moment as my wedding, bachelorette and honeymoon is costing me a small fortune. The lighting is so horrible on my new computer monitor that I don't know if any of my pictures actually look decent. I tried adjusting the settings, but everything looks overexposed.

Anyways, enough of my complaining...I tested out MAC Pro Longwear Foundation today for the first time. I have a sample of NC25 and I really like it. I do have dry skin and you REALLY need to moisturize before using this foundation if your skin is anything like mine. I also wet my Duo Fibre with Fix+ before applying foundation to the bristles to try and make it dewier and blend more evenly. So far the foundation looks just as good as when I put it on this morning. I probably will end up purchasing a bottle after my sample runs out. I've also been using MAC Pro Longwear Concealer and I really love the product, but I absolutely can't STAND the packaging. I don't use a lot of concealer, and the pump that comes with this is garbage. I could probably cover my entire face with the amount of concealer that comes out with one pump. It is so hard to control and such a waste of product. Has anyone else had this problem with the pump on the concealer? I hear the actual pump on the foundation is much better.

NOTD: Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Nail Color in "Quick Sand"

Here's a quick NOTD with Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Nail Color in "07 Quick Sand". I've been really loving this colour! It is similar to a couple other nail polishes I already own by OPI, but is much more affordable. The only downside is the shimmer. I find when I remove this polish the shimmer gets all over the place. It's a bit easier to remove when I use my Seche Vite because I find my polish comes off easier. I really want a peachy, nude beige colour like this, and I thought I found that in Sephora by OPI "Nonfat Soy Half Caff" but it's far too sheer. I also own OPI "Dulce De Leche" but I wish it had more brown/beige tones in it as opposed to pink. I'm still in search for the perfect nude polish! Any suggestions?
