REVIEW: Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum

What it is:
Dior's first lash primer that combs, curls, and coats each lash to create a smooth, even mascara base, while acting as a nourishing serum treatment that promotes long-term lash growth, strength, and vitality.
What it does:
The newest addition to the family of legendary Diorshow Mascaras, DiorShow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum & Primer instantly primes, plumps, and lengthens lashes with an ultra-light and quick-drying formula. The first "active serum" mascara primer also contains a unique cell-conditioning complex made up of hydrolyzed soy proteins that promote long-term lash growth, strength, and vitality.
What else you need to know:
"Diorshow Maximizer is this season's most innovative, must-have product. Apply as a primer serum base under mascara for intensely curled, thickened, and lengthened lashes and also on its own as a deep conditioner for lashes at night." -Sephora Pro Beauty Team Member, Nathalie Bechard
Research Results:
The Dior Innovation Center has tested Diorshow Maximizer for efficiency and found amazing results after only 8 weeks use: + 52% Volume, +38% Length, + 73% Curl

Studies also showed that lashes were more resilient, protected, and revitalized.

Retail Value: $28 US

REVIEW: All I need to say is, I'm hooked. I've never used highend lash primer before (i.e. Shishiedo) so I can't make a comparison. However, I've tried drugstore primers and this beats them all x100. The formula goes on white but dries fast and doesn't give you those crisp, ghostly white lashes like cheap drugstore primers give you. It dries fairly transparent unless you REALLY coat your lashes, then they will be white (not as white as drugstore primers though). If you do load up on it, its not an issue because mascara will cover the white. As for the brush, it is AMAZING at seperating your lashes. The formula is great as well. Its not too heavy that it weighs down my lashes. One coat and this instantly adds length and volume. It makes me like mascaras I hate (Benefit They're Real) and love EVEN MORE the mascaras I already loved on their own (CG Lash Perfection, I'm talking about you!) This is a new HG product. I have not used it enough to comment on whether it has 100% improved the overall condition of my lashes, but I must say, my lashes have been starting to look a lot fuller lately.

DUPE ALERT: Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer vs. Physicians Formula Shimmer Strip in "Vegas Strip"

Hey Guys!
I recently purchased the infamous Dior "Amber Diamond" Skin Shimmer as I've heard many of my favourite bloggers rave about this product (e.g., Temptalia, Miss Natty's Beauty Diary). What I didn't know, is that I had a great dupe for this already in my makeup collection! Before I get to the dupe, let me briefy tell you about the product.
"As sheer and shimmering as silk, the new Poudre Shimmer Diorskin brightens the complexion with thousands of sparkles and an airy caress of translucent light subtly shaded with delicate, sparkly gem-like effects. What is the secret of these unique reflections? Just the right amount of pearlescent particles and pigments designed to give the skin a beautiful sheen. The result: in just one step, your face radiates with a delicate halo of light!."
Retail Value: $44 US on
This is a gorgeous highlight which truly does fuse with your skin to give you a beautiful glow. The product is finely milled allowing the texture to be silky smooth to the touch. The packaging is gorgeous, from the velvet covering to the luxurious Christian Dior packaging with mirror.

The colour would be universally flattering on all skin-tones, and I find it flatters my NC30-40 skintone especially well.

Amber Diamond has such a beautiful sheen that blends in flawlessly with the skin

Curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to see how this compared to other highlighters in my collection. I ended up comparing NARS Albatross highlighter/blush (another very popular highlighter) and Physicians Formula Shimmer Strip in "Vegas Strip".

In person the swatches looked REALLY close. I typically don't find dupes that are close ENOUGH for me to warrant buying the alternative, but this does. The texture, sheen, colour (though varies depending on how much of each of the stripes you swatch), and pigmentation are all almost identical. If you have been wanting to try Dior Amber Diamond, but don't want to spend the money, try Physicians Formula Shimmer Strip in "Vegas Strip" for a fraction of the cost ($12.95 on the Physicians Formula website), AND it is more readily available as you can find it at most drugstores, Walmart...etc.

I ended up trying to swatch the individual strips to compare each of the shades. The only major difference I could tell was that Dior's first shade is more white-yellow whereas Physicians Formula is strickly yellow-gold in colour. If you are hard set on having a mirror with your highlighter, Physicians Formula does not come with one, but the packaging is still very nice and sleek and comes in a see-through square container. The Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips are not only marketed as a face product, but also as eye shadow as well. It is easier to use the PF product vs. the Dior product as eyeshadows as all of the colour are of the same size and none of the stripes are overly small, like in the Dior product. Also, some of you may not know that Physicians Formula is made in Italy! Coincidentally, Dior is made in Italy as well, huh.

October Luxe Box By Loose Button

Hey Guys!
This month Loose Button revamp their packaging. I actually prefer the old cardboard boxes better because I've been using them to store things and I like the overall design better. Despite the packaging change, each month the samples I receive I am not disappointed. I've looked at other companies who have a similar program (i.e., Birchbox), and I actually prefer the samples that I've been receiving in my Luxe Box vs. the leading competitors! Here are the goods:

Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest 2011

Hey Guys!
My home town of Kitchener-Waterloo is known for having the second largest Oktoberfest celebrations in THE WORLD so each year I attend at least one event to join in on the festivities. I always have an amazing time Oktoberfesting, and this year is no exception. Oktoberfest runs from Friday, October 7th to Saturday, October 15th, so it's still going on as we speak. I attended opening night and have tickets for the last night (which is always the biggest). This year, my friends and I wore dirndls and Oktoberfest hats. Each year I've attended Oktoberfest, I always buy a pin in commemoration of that year and pin it to the hat. Three out of the Four of us have a German heritage so Oktoberfest is all the more special to us. At the events, thousands of people come out, dance to polka music, drink beer, and eat German food. Since all four of us were dressed up in non-traditional dirndls, we had lots of people come up to us and ask for photos. If you live close to KW and have never been to Oktoberfest, I highly suggest you check it out! They have something for everyone: tons of events, parades and even things for children!

Oktoberfest ist Wunderbar!

REVIEW: Benefit They're Real Mascara

THE CLAIM: "They're real! lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts & separates. Our jet black, long-wearing formula won’t smudge or dry out. A specially designed brush reveals lashes you never knew you had!"

REVIEW: I've been using this mascara for a couple months now and my initial thoughts on this mascara were bad and with continued use, my thoughts still have not changed. I've tried everything to like this mascara, but the only thing that has helped to make this mascara better is by using my Dior Maximizer as a base, and I don't believe I should have to use a base in order to actually like a mascara, it should stand alone. There is so much hype over this mascara, and I can't see why. Yes, this mascara gives length and is truly long-wearing, but it gives absolutely NO volume, and you can't even layer this stuff to get volume because it clumps up after 1.5 coats. In general, I have really loved Benefit mascaras in the past and Bad Gal is one of my HG high-end brands, but They're Real ended up being a massive miss for me.

The brush looks like your typical plastic spiked bristles that have been quite popular since the launch and popularity of Cover Girl Lash Blast, however, it has one exception: the spikes on the end which can reach those hard to reach lashes, such as the inner corner.

I decided before giving this a bad review, I would try it again and again to see what I could do to make this work for me. I've been using this the past week and found that I'm starting to like it more ONLY because I've been using Dior Maximizer as a base. Initially, I was using this like any other mascara, two coats and done. However, you can only really get away with one coat, one and a half if you are very careful because the formula doesn't layer well. Over top of my Dior Maximizer Lash Primer my lashes look long, seperated, and defined without the clumping I was experiencing in the early stages. I've heard mixed reviews about this mascara not holding curl well. It held curl well for me, so that has never been an issue. The mascara also lives up to its claim that it is long-wearing. I didn't experience flaking after wearing this for 17 hours. However, this did smudge one my upper eyelid, and a little under my eye. This could be attributed to the wet formula. Another downside to this mascara is the price: $24 for a mascara is a little to rich for my blood since I find drugstore mascaras work just as good, if not better. Also, another downside is that it does not give me the amount of volume I would like from a mascara. That being said, this is a great mascara for daytime because it gives a naturally defined effect, but not my cup of tea for night as I prefer my lashes with a little more "oomph"/volume. Overall this is a decent mascara if you use it over a base and are VERY careful when layering, but if I were to choose a Benefit mascara to spend my money on I would choose Bad Gal Lash handsdown as I prefer the big bristle brush and the amount of volume it gives vs. They're Real. I feel as though I shouldn't have to put so much work into a mascara to get it to work for me, therefore, I would not repurchase this again.

Has this mascara lived up to the hype, in your opinion?
