Black Milk Clothing OOTD + FOTD

Hey Guys!
So I recently became ADDICTED to the brand Black Milk. If you haven't heard of Black Milk Clothing, they are an online retailer from Australia specializing in leggings, swimsuits, dresses that are basically, wearable art. There are definitely a few pieces that I don't particularly care for...actually, most of their stuff doesn't suit my taste, but when they come out with things that do, I absolutely LOVE them and have to have them. I recently received my first order: Red Galaxies and Liquid Wet Look Leggings. After receiving them, I waited for their new collection "Hot Little Bosses II" to be released a couple days later and placed another order: Ribs Bathing Suit, Liquid Gold Skirt.

Here's hoping I don't look like a hooker in my liquid gold skirt *crosses fingers*

Most of their pieces are limited edition and once they are sold out, they are "gone forever". Sometimes they bring back certain pieces and I have my eye, especially, on several swimsuits/bodysuits that have come out in the past. The number one thing on my want list is the Shark vs. Mermaid swimsuit:

It's Jaws meets the Little Mermaid. I want this so bad! Today is the first day I am wearing my Red Galaxy Leggings and I absolutely LOVE them! I kept going back and forth between what size I should get as I fell between a small and a medium. All my measurements were a small, except my hips. My hips were between a small and medium so I was worried my big ass would stretch the nylon fabric and turn see through. Thankfully, the small fits me perfectly, but still is a little baggy on my ankles were are probably an XXS LOL. I have weird measurements. I've seen a lot of girls wear their Black Milk Clothing with Jeffrey Campbell shoes, so I thought I would follow suit. Here is my outfit of the day and a breakdown of my makeup. I was watching a video of RissRose2 on YouTube and she wore Lady Danger lipstick with Cherry lipliner and a pinkish pigment on the centre of her bottom lip. As soon as I saw this, I HAD to copy. The lip combo is so amazing. The photos don't do it justice. The pigment makes my bottom lip look extra pouty in person.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation + Foundation Primer in Radiance

Hey Guys!
I always like to keep you updated with foundations I have been trying and loving. I have been using Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation on-and-off for about a year now, but only recently have been using it on a daily basis. In the morning, I actually have been reaching for Laura Mercier over my Make Up For Ever HD. Shocking, I know. As soon as I realized that this was becoming a pattern, I knew I had to share one of my new favourite primer+foundation combos. I always use different brand primers with different brand foundations, but in all honesty, I love Laura Mercier Radiance Primer the best with Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation. This is also true with my trusty Make Up For Ever HD. I love Make Up For Ever Primer with their HD foundation, but typically don't like that primer with my beloved NARS Sheer Glow or even Laura Mercier Silk Creme. In my experience, I find using a corresponding primer and foundation of the same brand yields better results as typically they are formulated to work in conjunction with one another. During this post I will be reviewing two separate products, both by Laura Mercier: Radiance Foundation Primer, and Silk Creme Foundation.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in "Radiance"

"Laura Mercier, the pioneer of Foundation Primer, introduces a breakthrough radiant formula to the collection. Foundation Primer Radiance not only provides a smooth silky surface for makeup application, but also it adds a sheer, healthy glow to the skin."

Directions: Smooth on Foundation Primer - Radiance by gently massaging over skin's surface. Can be applied over moisturizer or onto clean skin before Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, Foundation or Concealer.

Ingredients: Water, Hydrogenated Didecene, Glycerin, Pvp, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Sorbitan Stearate, Mica (CI 77019), Cetyl Alcohol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Propylene Glycol Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Propylene Glycol Isostearate, Glyceryl Isostearate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Boron Nitride, Squalane, Caprylyl Glycol, Oleth-25, Ceteth-25, Tocopherol Acetate, Polysorbate 60, Retinyl Palmitate, Tin Oxide, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Triethanolamine, Tropolone, Butylene Glycol, Plankton Extract. May Contain (+/-): Ci 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Ci 77491 (Iron Oxide).

Retail: $30 1.7 fl. oz./50 ml www.sephora.com

Review: If you were reading my last post on my "Current Favourite Makeup Routine" you would have noticed I was using Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance paired with MAC Pro Longwear Foundation. I ran out of my MAC foundation so I ended up switching over to my Laura Mercier Silk Creme, once again, and have been loving the results. The MAC Pro Longwear was a bit harder to work with because the consistency was so thick, I had to spray my foundation brush with Fix+ just to sheer it out so it could be buffed into my skin easier. In the end, I get a similar finish/wear time as I find both foundations are long wearing, except I don't have to work as hard with Laura Mercier Silk Creme as it is naturally forgiving on its own. I also find Laura Mercier Silk Creme to look more natural on my skin, almost undetectable. I don't believe this primer really prolongs the wear of the foundation, as I find the foundation wears well on its own. I have yet to use this primer with other foundations, but I will update you later if it helps other foundations stay in place longer. The primer adds radiance, like the name suggests, giving the skin a beautiful, lit from within glow. For those with fair skin, you may find this product to be too tinted as it is not clear in colour. For days when I'm having a "good skin day", I can wear this primer on its own and it gives a natural glow, evening out my skin tone ever so slightly at the same time. The first time I tried this primer was actually in a deluxe sample which I received by placing an order on sephora.com. I loved the sample so much that I placed an order for a full-size tube before I was even finished with the deluxe sample. I definitely recommend this primer if you have dry/normal skin, love having a dewy complexion, and if you already love the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

"The ultimate in flawless natural coverage. Silk Creme Foundation is a beautiful, light-diffusing formula offering advanced light-reflection properties which cause fine lines and wrinkles to optically vanish. Laura created an innovative foundation that delivers flawless, buildable coverage in a long wearing rich hydrating base."
"This long-wearing foundation evens out skintone as it increases skin luminosity and clarity for a radiant glow. The rich, creamy texture glides over the skin effortlessly for perfect application and blend ability. Perfect for rosacea and hard to cover pigmentation. Ideal for all skin types, an oil-free" - Sephora.com

Directions: Apply a small amount with a sponge. Blend gently into skin for a luminous flawless finish.

Retail: $42 1.18 fl. oz./35 ml www.sephora.com

Review: I typically prefer liquid foundations over cremes. In general, creme foundations don't blend in as well to my skin, staying on top and moving around, settling in fines lines and transferring to anything my skin touches, even with use of a setting powder. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation is an exception. The formula blends in seamlessly, imparting a natural, luminescent finish that is long lasting, yet moisturizing to the skin. If you have ever tried MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation, the texture and consistency is extremely similar. The finish of both foundations are also very similar, but the difference I find between the two foundations is the wear time. MAC Studio Sculpt tends to slip around on my skin and by the end of a work day, it looks a mess. MAC Studio Sculpt is probably where I started to dislike creme formula foundations. On the other hand, Laura Mercier Silk Creme stays in place and looks pretty much exactly the same at the end of a full days work as it did when I first applied it in the morning. When using Silk Creme in conjunction with the Foundation Primer in Radiance, there is no budging of my foundation at all. I am absolutely loving the combination of both the Laura Mercier Primer and Foundation. My skin looks natural, flawless, and radiant. My ideal skin!

Yes, I absolutely love this foundation. However, there are a few things I dislike about Laura Mercier Silk Creme. First and foremost, I dislike the shade selection. There are 8 (?) shades available and I have tried 3 (Medium Ivory, Bamboo Beige, Cashew Beige) and none seem to be the perfect shade. Bamboo Beige is probably my closest match and works well with my NC30 colouring. You may be wondering, "Why did you end up getting a tube of Medium Ivory if Bamboo Beige is your best match?" I have a tube of Medium Ivory because my friend gave it to me after she suffered breakouts from the formula. I, on the other hand, have never had a problem with breakouts from this foundation. Another downfall is that unless your skintone falls between the light to medium spectrum, you will not be able to find a colour suitable to tan to dark skin tones. This actually presents a probably for me in the summer when a few weeks I am extremely tan. A quick fix to this problem is to set the foundation with a darker powder. I find the shade selection to be too pink/neutral for my liking and I would like a shade with a little more of a yellow undertone, but I typically fix this the same way, a yellow toned setting powder.

The directions recommend using this with a sponge. I own a Beauty Blender and I have been dying to try it out with the Silk Creme foundation as I have only used my go-to flat top kabuki brush to apply this thus far. I will update you guys later if you are interested in how I like using the Beauty Blender with this particular foundation.

I would recommend this foundation to those with dry/normal skin type as I could see this foundation being an issue with oily skin types as it is very luminous and dewy upon application. I have dry/normal skin and I think setting this foundation with a powder is essential. I can't imagine how those with oily skin would fair as this is bordering too dewy at times. I like using my CARGO Blu_Ray Pressed Powder in a mix of #20/#30 to get my perfect colouring.

I love the versatility of this foundation due to its buildability. You can sheer this foundation out with a moisturizer/wet sponge, apply it with a foundation brush (I like to use a flat top kabuki), or even use your fingers. For me, it is impossible for this foundation to look cakey. My skin looks flawless yet natural all at the same time. Some of my freckles still peek through, but blemishes and uneven skintone are completely covered. The foundation does not oxidize on me and a little bit goes a long way. You may think $42 is a lot of money, but trust me, a tube of this will last you longer than most liquid foundations as you only need a dab.

Here are a few photos from the past (funny how two of the four photos featured on my webpage banner are of me using Laura Mercier Silk Creme), using LMSC foundation. I really love how this foundation photographs. The first photo I am using the shade "Cashew Beige" and the second photo I am using the shade "Medium Ivory". I know I have a photo of me wearing "Bamboo Beige" somewhere around here, but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

My Current Favourite Everyday Makeup Routine (Foundation + Eyes)

Hey Guys!
I figured I would share with you a look I have been wearing practically everyday for a few weeks now. I really love how my skin and eye makeup have been turning out and I do believe it's a combination of the products I am using, plus a few application tricks.

As for my face, I have been trying to use up all my lighter shade foundations as I'm preparing to get my self-tan on for the spring/summer months. I actually finished my bottle of MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in NC25 last week, and I'm a bit sad to see it go. At first I didn't like it because it was too thick and always looked a bit on the cakey side. However, I started wetting my flat top kabuki brush with a little bit of MAC Fix+ before I applied product to my face and I found it sheered out and buffed the foundation in extremely well. Along with not using face powder and setting my foundation with Urban Decay All Night Setting Spray, this has been one of my favourite combinations as of lately. I almost forgot, I have been using Laura Mercier Radiance Primer prior to the MAC Pro Longwear Foundation and I found my foundation looks phenomenal even at the end of the day.

I have also been achieving a slightly bronzed, pink glow with two face products. Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess and MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in "Superb". As of this moment, these are my favourite bronzer and blush, respectively.

As for my eyeshadow, I wanted to switch up my typical mattes and go with a shimmery nude on the lid. I've been doing this combo using MAC Bare Study Paint Pot for probably a month now. I'm loving MAC Paint Pots so much that I've been wanting to pick up Soft Ochre and Groundwork, but haven't gotten around to it quite yet.

I've been wearing this makeup look both day and night. At night, I add some false lashes (either a half set, or full strip) and I'm good to go. Here is how the same makeup turned out, using a half set of false lashes for a dinner and movie night with my hubby. I think I was also sporting a nude lip for the occasion. I believe it was MAC Creme D'Nude.

LaVanila Laboratories The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Passion Fruit

Hey Guys!
I've been trying to be more conscious of the things I use on my body and face and have been trying to stick to more natural ingredients in products that I buy. Obviously, I am no where near perfect, but even switching over most of my bath, body and hair care is a start. You have to start some where right?! I figured, may as well switch over the things I can, and limit the things I am not ready to part with (i.e., certain makeup products). At the beginning of March, I ordered LaVanila The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Passion Fruit off of Sephora. Before my review, here is some background information on the product:

Description:

"Essential oils of passion fruit mingle with guava and vanilla for an uplifting burst of freshness. This All-Natural, freshly scented deodorant provides superior, long-lasting door protection. Soothing essential oils blend with powerful anti-oxidants and beta glucan technology for daily defence and nourishment. Clinically Tested. Dermatologist Recommended. No Aluminum. No Paraben. No Propylene Glycol. No Harsh Chemicals."

Healthy Difference:
"Traditional deodorants and antiperspirants can contain ingredients including Aluminum, Propylene Glycol and Parabens that could potentially absorb into the delicate underarm area, a gateway to the infection-fighting lymphatic system.
The Healthy Deodorant is a 100% Healthy solution. Completely free of Harsh Chemicals, it's a safe, effective and luxurious way to fight door. Our health-promoting formula is packed with anti-oxidants, botanicals, polysaccharides and essential oils to not only fight door, but nourish, strengthen and soothe the skin."

Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis leaf juice (Aloe juice, water/aqua), Alpha-Glucan oligosaccharide (Sugar derived), Carrageenan (Seaweed derived), Hydrastis canadensis (Goldenseal) extract, Inulin (Artichoke derived), Lonicera caprifolium (Honeysuckle) flower extract, Lycium barbarum fruit extract (Goji berry), Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea tree) flower/leaf/stem extract, Propanediol (Corn derived), Saccharomyces ferment, Sodium stearate (Coconut derived), Stearyl behenate (Coconut derived), Usnea barbata (Lichen) extract, Valeriana officinalis root extract (Valerian), Yeast beta glucan, Zea mays (Corn) starch

ABSOLUTELY NO:

Mineral Oils: A very inexpensive petroleum product that can clog the pores and reduce the skin's ability to detoxify. Found to promote premature aging and interfere with skin's ability to eliminate toxins, promoting acne and other disorders.
Parabens: (methyl, propyl, butyl, ethyl) The most widely used group of chemical preservatives in cosmetics. It is estimated that more than 90% of all cosmetic products contain some form of paraben. A potential skin irritant linked to several long-term health implications.
Phthalates: A chemical plasticizing element commonly used in fragrance and body care products to extend the longevity of scent on the skin. Research has linked phthalates to health and reproduction complications.
Propylene Glycol: A petroleum derivative used as a humectant to stop products from drying out. Research at the American Academy of Dermatologists has shown this to be a skin irritant linked with several allergies.
Silicone: Silicone emollients are occlusive - that is they coat the skin, trapping anything beneath it and do not allow the skin to breathe (much like plastic wrap would do.) Silicones compose a wide family of synthetic compounds use in formulations for their soft and silky texture. They are not friendly to the environment as they are not biodegradable.
Sulfates: (Sodium Laureth, Sodium Lauryl, Ammonium Lareth) An inexpensive, harsh detergent used in shower gels, shampoos etc to make them foamier. Linked with skin irritation, hair loss and impaired hair growth according to the American Journal of Toxicology.
Synthetic Dyes: (Coal tar dyes - FD& C color pigments, colors followed by a number such as blue 1, yellow 6) Used to tint or give colour to personal care and beauty products. Said by some to be carcinogens when ingested or applied to the skin. Also said to cause sensitivity and irritation.

Review: I have always been interested in a natural deodorant. I looked into LUSH deodorants a long time ago, but never liked the way they smelt. I ended up ordering this online without having smelt it first. I rarely, if ever, do this as scent is one of those things I can't really mess with. I heard good things about the Vanilla Coconut (which was sold out) and the Vanilla Passion Fruit (which was, obviously, available) so I ended up ordering Vanilla Passion Fruit. I was nervous that it would have a similar, earthy/natural/unpleasant scent like the LUSH deodorants, but I decided to take the plunge and spend the $18 (yeah, RIDICULOUS price), on the LaVanila. Even if a product works AMAZING, if it smells like crap, literally, I'm not going to smear it all over my body, use it on my face, or put it in my hair. Period. I was a bit nervous, but I like Vanilla scented things and Passion Fruit is one of my favourite juices to consume so I figured, meh, it can't be that bad. Vanilla Passion Fruit ended up smelling really nice, but not something I was overly crazy about. The product doesn't actually smell like Vanilla at all to me, so for those of you who don't actually like Vanilla scented products, still check this out the next time you are at your local Sephora if you are interested in a healthy alternative to your typical aluminum containing deodorant. I was really happy I ended up getting the Vanilla Passion Fruit because on my last trip to my local Sephora, I ended up smelling all the varieties and liked the Passion Fruit scent the best. The LaVanila Healthy Deodorant is available in five scents: Pure Vanilla, Vanilla Coconut, Vanilla Lavender, Vanilla Grapefruit, and Vanilla Passion Fruit. For reference, it takes quite a lot for me to perspire, and typically, I don't sweat/get pit stains or have body odour. Honestly, a lot of the time I forgot to even wear deodorant. I have an active job and you would never notice a difference on the days when I forgot. I guess I am lucky in this department. I find this product works with your own natural body chemistry and masks any odour. This is NOT an antiperspirant so if you have a problem sweating, this probably won't be a good product for you as it won't stop or block perspiration. This product is quite perfect for me if it wasn't for the hefty price tag. The only thing holding me back from repurchasing this is the amount of money one solid costs. As far as application, this product goes on feeling wet and cold and takes several minutes for this odd sensation to go away. I've never felt anything like it. I would suggest waiting for this to soak into your skin before getting dressed, or apply this carefully after getting dressed. Overall, I think this is a great alternative to most deodorants that contain aluminum and gives me adequate protection against odour throughout my demanding workday.

Tips: For best results, apply as often as necessary to DRY, CLEAN skin.

Retail Value: $18 (50 g / 1.7 fl oz) www.sephora.com
